About / Eagle Eye

Enthusiasm and Passion for Wine

Eagle Eye Imports was established in Michigan in 2004, with the mission of importing great French wines, representative of their terroir at the best possible prices.  The portfolio quickly expanded to include other international and domestic wines that stayed true to the Eagle Eye ideal. Based on these successes, Eagle Eye grew to include two divisions: Importing Division, a portfolio of imported and domestic wines distributed in Michigan and Illinois, and Brands & Estates, a portfolio of wines created by Eagle Eye in collaboration with global partners that are sold internationally.

Eagle Eye has made its reputation by choosing wines that adhere to three principles: authenticity, approachability and accessibility.   Each wine that carries the Eagle Eye logo is one that represents the terroir from which it comes. The wine draws its identity from the land where it is produced and its character from the culture that surrounds it. The wine exemplifies the typicity of a region and provides a window to that area and its heritage.

By seeking out wineries that offer great value for money, Eagle Eye is able to make their wines accessible to everyone and by remaining true to the idea of terroir, the wines offer an education on the great wine growing regions of the world. Our business was built out of an enthusiasm and passion for wine, in the beauty of a product that can represent a unique moment in time and place, a culmination of climate, soil, weather and viticulture capturedin a bottle, and we want to share that passion with you.

Meet Our Management Team

Jean Jacques Fertal

Jean Jacques is co-founder and President of Eagle Eye Brands. Originally from Paris, after marrying his American wife, Mary France, he moved to Metro Detroit where he started his career in wine. Jean Jacques' passion for wine is deep rooted in family tradition.

Jason Knysz

Vice President

Jason began his career at Eagle Eye while he was still enrolled at Michigan State University. After graduating from the Eli Broad School of Business, he came on full time and helped build Eagle Eye to where it is today. He has always had a strong passion for wine.

Shane Nicholson

Sales Manager

A "retired" veteran of the restaurant industry, Shane wore many hats: General Manager, Food and Beverage Director, Wine Consultant, Sommelier, Wine Director, Wine Educator, spiritual advisor, muse, poet, consigliere; among others. With a genuine romance for his one true love, wine, he was happily led astray into the loving clutches of Eagle Eye Brands. Shane is a proud husband to his patient (and obviously insane) lovely wife, Jaime. Father also to three wild animals escaped from the zoo, known as Carter, Owen and Finley. Who, despite their - deserved to be locked up in a cage - behavior, have a way of melting his heart. Like a blowtorch to a candle. Shane also enjoys slow walks along the hardwood floor to the fridge for cold beer, classic jazz that drowns out his loud snoring, and the glutton for punishment type pain that comes directly from being a die hard Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Sabres fan since youth.

Giampaolo Cherubin

US - National Sales Director

Giampaolo’s extensive background includes more than 20 years in the wine industry. Since 2000, he has been involved with national sales and marketing for several leading importers. His background also includes twelve years in the hospitality industry as part for the management team for Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts. His supplier experience includes a role of Regional manager for Banville & Jones and National sales manager with Rose importing and Vintners Estates Direct Importing.

Christophe Laidebeure

International Director of Sales

Native of Champagne, where he developed a taste for fine wine and food, Christophe moved to the south of France in search of more sun! Wisely, he also took advantage of this migration to study, and obtained a Masters degree in International Wine trade from the Montpelier School of Management, traveling around Europe in the meantime. He became an ambassador for his adopted region, the Languedoc, by working as Export Sales manager for several producers. In 2009, he arrived at Château des Karantes (our property in the South of France) to develop the image and the sales in Europe and around the world. Today, he pursues the same mission for for Eagle Eye Brands & Estates.
